Worldwide Business Leaders Visit Minot

Posted: Jun 01 2015
The Chicago International Trade Commissioners' Association (CITCA) visited Minot last week during a North Dakota tour, which was put on by the North Dakota Department of Commerce. CITCA represents 40 countries from across the globe and facilitates the expansion of international trade and investment between their respective countries (or regions) and the Midwest. CITCA is a volunteer organization based in Chicago, with Trade Representatives from foreign governments and jurisdiction for most of the Midwest Region in the U.S. Their key objective is promoting trade and business opportunities with the Midwest.

The following tasks are a few worldleadersminot15.jpgways they acquire their mission:

• Informing people about the Midwest in their home countries
• Connecting companies for business opportunities
• Organizing participants in trade shows
• Facilitating trade missions
• Fostering partnerships

The Minot Area Development Corporation hosted CITCA's visit to Minot and welcomed CITCA with a special dinner joined by community leaders. The following day MADC and CITCA had the opportunity to tour Minot Milling and AGT Foods.

In 1998, Minot Milling was established to compete in the industrial ingredient marketplace with pasta and flour products. Minot Milling is a division of Philadelphia Macaroni Company and provides superior flour by refining durum and hard red spring wheat. Awarded as the top organic miller in 2014, Minot Milling provides 90% of Philadelphia Macaroni Company's flour; who then manufacturers dry, frozen, and specialty pasta for industrial, institutional, and contract retail customers. Minot Milling provides flour used in big-name brands such as; Kraft, General Mills, Nestle, Campbell's and many more.

AGT Foods, recently known as United Pulse, is one of the largest suppliers of value-added pulses, staple foods, and food ingredients in the world. The AGT Foods facility in Minot is currently exceeding production and recently announced a $30 million expansion. As Kosher, organic, allergy and GMO free foods are changing the face of Agriculture, AGT Foods is becoming a specialty provider for consumers all over the globe.

Each tour provided insights about Minot's value-added agriculture operations and allowed CITCA to see the significant role Minot has with pulse crops. Worldwide representatives from Malaysia, Bulgaria, South Africa, and other areas across the globe were very pleased and impressed with all that Minot has to offer.
